Paris, Day 1!

My dad works for United Airlines, meaning that we fly standby. An employee and his family/companions that fly standby take up leftover seats on the airplane, and if you want first or business class, you have to dress NICE. The night before, my sister texted me "What should I pack for Paris?" Considering that it was the night she turned 18, an adult, I replied, "You're an adult now, think for yourself."

Apparently that was a mistake.

At the airport, my dad's friend was working the counter so he hooked us up with first class seats. He also nearly got in major trouble because Sam was wearing those Rite Aid sneakers with visible white socks. My mom and I quickly shuffled shoes (Sam couldn't fit anything), and eventually got on the plane.

There's something really funny about getting good seats as opposed to coach. First class and business is sooo comfortable: reclined seats, foot rests, back massagers, good food, movie choices. I ALWAYS fall asleep right away so I don't get to enjoy the features! Then in economy you get nothing and it's hard as hell to fall asleep because it's so uncomfortable!

Personal tapes =)

Ice Cream!

Arriving in Paris

On the train to reach the city

"We didn't edit this video, there's actually a guy playing the accordion!" In France they don't have that Graffiti Busters business like we do in the Bay Area. France is pretty dirty, sorry.

Finding out where to go

Take note that every entrance to the metro is in the Art Nouveau style. It's sooo cool. =) Might I add in that I have successfully conquered the Paris subway system. =) I'll be your tour guide.

Don't know why they sell condoms inside the metro station...

Take the metro to Bir Hakeim/Tour-Eiffel to see the Eiffel Tower!

Every hour or half hour? (I forget), the tower flickers.

Sorry it starts off sideways...

Like we have taco trucks in America, they have crepe, cafe, baguette trucks in France. Everything is better in France. =(

For dinner, we found a cafe that was open late (many are open until 2am). I ordered Quiche Lorraine.

My dad ordered Sausage Frites and it turned out just being hot dogs with fries.

My German relatives that met up with us at the hotel brought delish German chocolates.

Marriotts have the most plush, squishy, soft beds ever!

Today I watched The Class at the Lumiere. It's a film about a teacher at a diverse inner-city school. What was insane about it was the fact that the rudeness of the students and the constant in-class arguments is something that you would see at Logan. Being a teacher is a really tough job. I thought I loved everything French but the rapid French spats for 2 hours was getting to be a little much. I think you're supposed to feel that though; you feel sorry for the teacher because those kids got pretty annoying. Very fine acting. The theater also got pretty cold after the first hour and when I get cold, my body tends to shut down...ZzzzZZZZ....

My dad ordered Ong Bak 2 from Thailand. I'm watching it now and it sucks sooo hard. It has nothing to do with "Ong Bak", horrible graphics...I don't even know what it's about.

My dad also ordered a movie which translates to "Five Lines". I read the entire synopsis on the case (which was in Thai). It was painful! My Thai is bad. I read the words but couldn't figure out what any of it meant. My mom wouldn't help me. FAIL. The "Five Lines" they're referring to is a Buddhist prayer written in ancient Khmer (Cambodian), as seen as that shoulder tattoo that Angelina Jolie has.

I can't find the tv remote. Tragedy!

This video makes me so happy! The world would be a much happier place if we had dance breaks. And I mean real dancing, none of that dry humping crap.

Thai Beef Salad!

I was REALLY about to go for a run but I remembered I had to make lunch for my dad. My Thai food knowledge is pretty limited...but here goes. I don't really use measurements...only when I'm reading something off a recipe book. So bear with me, if you make this yourself just make sure it tastes good in the end. I think cooking (you don't have to listen to me especially since I'm no pro, like Chefboyrdean) should be fun and about improvisation, not precise like chemistry...a class I would have failed if I didn't cheat off my classmates. (We all cheated and passed together, don't hate).

The pictures should give you an idea. This is obviously a really easy recipe if I can make it haha.

Step 1: Grill some beef or pork. No seasonings needed, just grill the meat.
Step 2: Slice the meat really thin. Like, 1/4" thin.
Step 3: Toss it in a bowl with mint, diced red onions, cilantro, green onions

Step 4: Add some diced up jalapeno chili peppers and lemongrass (picture).

Step 5: Squeeze in some lemon. Maybe even a whole lemon.

Step 6: FISH SAUCE. Not too much though.

Step 7: Add some more chili, this time ground, dried chili..because Thai food is never spicy enough.

Step 8: Mix it all together
Step 9: Taste it. It should be a balanced mix between salty, sour, and spicy. Overall, refreshing.

Step 10: Plate it with some lettuce leaves. Enjoy!

Sorry for the hiatus

Even though like, 3 people read this.

My Spring Break is a little long. It officially started March 23. I got to hang out with friends for the entire first week, as in EVERY DAY was booked and planned out, but now everyone has returned to class. I'm all alone...with no money to spend. Not even my family is available. My mom also warned me not to go biking by myself due to current events..so there goes my fitness.

I'm not even sure if I'm going to make it to Paris (April 4th), but my parents said we'll go to Hawaii instead. It kinda sucks that I have to wait until the very last leg of my break before going on vacation. Our family vacation plan was to return from Paris on April 9th and then I have class the next day at 8:30 am. Ridiculous. At least I won't have time to get jetlag.

Anyways, the other day Nikko and I made some sushi.

I'm so boring. Byee!
